Gangtok and North Sikkim

Day Wise Itinerary (4N)

Day 1 – Arrival, Bagdogra

Today, upon arrival at Bagdogra Airport, you will be greeted by our representative and escorted to your accommodation. The road journey will be of around 4 to 5 hours due to the hilly terrain. After check-in at the hotel, you may relax or explore the town of Gangtok. Night stay in Gangtok..

Day 2 – Lanchung via Chungthang Valley

Today after breakfast, we head to North Sikkim. We start with the North East, taking you to the picturesque Lachung. On the way, we come across various waterfalls and scenic viewpoints. As you proceed north along the Teesta River, you come across various scenic points worthy of a halt. Enroute, you pass through Chungthang, a once famous view point for its dam. With the 2023 floods, this place is now in ruins. While the work is being done to restore it, you will witness the damage a natural calamity can do. Lastly, you come across Bheem Nala falls. It is also called as Amitabh Bachchan Falls for its sheer height. It is one of the tallest waterfalls in Sikkim, with water cascading down from a significant height, creating a mesmerizing three-tiered effect. In the evening there is a live music show near the falls with bonfire which is worth participating in.

Day 3 – Zero Point, Yumthang Valley

Today after breakfast you start your journey towards Zero Point. Enroute, you visit various scenic points best known for the majestic snow clad mountains and pristine river flowing in the meadows. You can help but stop and admire nature’s beauty at its best in this time of the year. As you approach Zero Point, the air becomes clearer and crisp. it marks the end of the motorable road and is the last accessible point before the Indo-China border. Zero Point offers panoramic views of snow-covered mountains. The area remains snow-clad for most of the year, providing a serene and picturesque landscape. As you ascend down, we take you to Yumthang Valley. Often referred to as the “Valley of Flowers,” is a stunning nature sanctuary and is renowned for its vibrant floral diversity, lush meadows, and breathtaking Himalayan landscapes. As we leave Yumthang, we once again pass by Chungthang Valley and proceed towards the north western part of Sikkim called Lachen.

Day 4 – Gurudongmar Lake, Kala Pathar and return to Gangtok

Today after breakfast we take you on a tour of North West Sikkim. We start with the magnificent Gurudongmar Lake. Being one of the highest lakes in the world at 17,800 feet, it is considered sacred by Buddhists and Sikhs and is named after Guru Padmasambhava, who is believed to have visited the lake in the 8th century. Thus it has a unique blend of natural beauty and spiritual significance . Next, we take you to Kala Pathar. Kala Pathar is renowned for its snow-covered landscapes that persist throughout the year, offering visitors a mesmerizing view of the Himalayan peaks . The area is relatively untouched, providing a serene environment for travelers seeking tranquility. Lastly we embark on our journey back to Gangtok. The evenings are free for you to explore the town. We recommend visiting Lal Bazaar and M. G Marg for shopping where you are bound to get spoilt for choice.

Day 5 – Gangtok Sightseeing Tour

Today after breakfast we take you to a tour of Gangtok. We start with a visit to Namgyal Institute of Tibetology. It is a renowned center for the study and research of Tibetan culture, language, religion, and history. Established in 1958, the institute serves as a repository of Tibetan literature, art, and artifacts, playing a vital role in preserving the rich heritage of Tibetan Buddhism. Next we take you to Do Drul Chorten, one of the most significant and revered stupas. It was constructed to ward off evil spirits believed to have haunted the area.The stupa is encircled by 108 Mani Lhakor (prayer wheels), each inscribed with the mantra “Om Mani Padme Hum.” Visitors can spin these wheels clockwise to seek blessings. Next we take you to Flower Exhibition. Visitors can admire a diverse collection of flowers, including orchids, roses, alpine plants, cacti, creepers, climbers, ferns, and herbs. This exhibition is usually open from March until early June.

Post lunch, we take you to Enchey Monastery. The monastery showcases a blend of Tibetan and Sikkimese architectural styles, featuring a distinctive pagoda-style roof and intricate wood carvings. The walls are adorned with vibrant murals depicting Buddhist deities and scenes from sacred texts. Colorful prayer flags flutter around the monastery, enhancing its tranquil ambiance. Next, we take you to the Handicrafts and Handloom museum. It houses various handcrafted items, including carpets, blankets, paintings, wood carving, masks, and handmade paper. The museum also features live demonstrations of artisans at work, providing insights into the crafting processes of these traditional items. Next, we take you to Bakthang Waterfall, a serene waterfall which originates from the Tanze Glacial Lake, and cascades down a height of about 50 feet, creating a tranquil pool at its base.

Next, we take you to Tashi viewpoint, where you see a panoramic view of the Kanchenjunga mountain range, the third-highest peak in the world. Local stalls offer telescopes/binoculars to get a closer view of the snow-covered peaks and surrounding hills. Nearby stalls sell local handicrafts and snacks, and sometimes you can even wear traditional Sikkimese costumes for photos. Next we take you to Ban Jhakari Falls. It is a 100-foot waterfall that cascades through a lush, forested park designed to celebrate the shamanic traditions of the region. The centerpiece is a 100-foot natural waterfall sourced from mountain springs, creating a serene pool at its base.The park features exhibits on renewable energy, including solar-powered installations and interactive displays, making it both educational and eco-friendly. Visitors can enjoy landscaped gardens, footbridges, gazebos, and a man-made lake with paddle boats. There’s also a play area for children, making it a family-friendly destination. Lastly, we take you to Ranka Monastery. Built in traditional Tibetan style, the monastery features intricate murals, vibrant prayer wheels, and a grand statue of Lord Buddha in the lotus position.

Day 6 – Tsongmo Lake, Baba Harbhajan Singh Mandir and Nathula Pass

Today after breakfast we take you to eastern part of Sikkim. We first take you to Tsongmo Lake. One of the few high-altitude lakes in India, it is considered sacred among the locals and it is said that the water changes color as per the season. With beautiful mountains surrounding it, it is a natural wonder to behold. Next, we take you to Nathula Pass which is the key landmark in Indo China Border. To be able to see Chinese check posts, you will have to climb 100 steps. Please note that photography is not permitted in this area for security reasons. Next, we take you to Baba Harbhajan Singh Mandir. Legend has it that Baba Harbhajan Singh drowned in a glacier when he was trying to lead a column of mules carrying supplies. Soon enough, some army men left for his search and found his dead body after three days. It is said that Harbhajan Singh himself helped other men to find his body. He had once asked one of his colleagues in his dreams to build a shrine for him. Harbhajan Singh used to warn the team about any attacks at least three days before they occurred.

Post lunch, on your journey back to Gangtok, we take you to Himalayan Zoological Park. The park is home to several species native to the Himalayas, including the red panda, snow leopard, Himalayan black bear, clouded leopard, Tibetan wolf, Himalayan palm civet, goral, Himalayan tahr, yaks and porcupines,. Next we take you to Ganesh Tok. A temple for Lord Ganesh, it is the second most visited place in Sikkim. Colorful prayer flags adorn the path leading to the temple, adding to the spiritual ambiance of the place. This small temple offers not only spiritual solace but also breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding Himalayan landscapes. Next we take you to Hanuman Tok. According to legend, Lord Hanuman rested at this spot while carrying the Sanjeevani herb to save Lord Lakshmana. This belief adds to the temple’s sanctity and attracts numerous devotees seeking blessings.

Day 7 – Drop at Bagdogra

Today post breakfast, we drop you to Bagdogra. Since it is a 5 hour road journey, it is advisable to start early and reach at least 2 hours before your departure time. You return home with fond memories of Sikkim with loads of pictures and experiences to share with family and friends.

Points to Note

  • This itinerary takes you to places at very high altitude. For travelers with respiratory issues, it is advisable to consult your doctor before confirming the tour. Travel insurance is recommended for altitude-related risks
  • Road travel is slow due to mountainous terrain. Considering some buffer time is essential for a hassle free trip.

A non refundable deposit of ₹ 10,000 helps us book / block the activities and hotels as per your preference. Please note that the payment for adventure activities (non refundable) will need to be done in full while booking the package.
